The “Semblance” series is an example of the connection between color and form tension. These pieces are not an image of feelings or an expression of emotion; they are purely action and reflection. The explicit nature of the work becomes the domineering aspect that helps define its weight and strength. After examining these pieces years later, I’ve come to realize their subject matter. This time period was during the conception of my son and although abstract in form, they visually become quite graphic. Sex, sexuality, conception, and pregnancy. Distancing yourself from your work can always be enlightening; hindsight is 20/20.
The “Mother and Child” series is a collection of images created from one large woodcut. The series includes an edition of 25 straight prints, and 7 unique prints. The life size image is of my wife and son sleeping side by side as he is held in a half awaken embrace. This image is what I would see every morning before I left for work, taking several sketches before leaving.
